Reflection- Letter 37
In this letter, Sofia ends up in prison after "sassing" the mayor's wife. Back in this time frame, it can be inferred that black people could not just speak to white people in just any manner. They had to speak to them as if they were superiors and always stay "in their place." However, due to the structure of Sofia's character, Sofia was not so kind to the woman when she examined her children like slaves and asked her to be the maid of the house. Sofia used vulgar language, resulting in her being bloodied and bludgeoned by the police and arrested. This is the first large scaled reference to the time setting of the novel. This letter showed just how careful colored people had to be about their words, otherwise they'll end up mentally institutionalized.

Journal Entry-

Today was a good day. Considering my first block teacher was not present today, I had the opportunity to rest this morning and have a nice break. The next block, instead of focusing on AP Calculus we were invited to watch the Sky High Q team compete against other schools in the gym. By the time we returned back to class we only had 11 minutes to spare. I was annoyed by the team, given that the answers given by our school had very little thought put into them. It was slightly disappointing for everyone that watched. However, I do enjoy the fact that I got a break in Ms. Mahoney's class for once. That won't happen again for another million blood moons!

This obviously scars her for the rest of her life, being that she was only 14 years old when it happened. Kamryn Barnes Mr. Rease AP Eng 11 19 November 2016        The novel, The Sorrow of War , was a novel about the struggles of  a Vietnamese soldier named Kien. The novel told stories of love and loss and how different people cope with the aftermath. The point of view constantly shifts and is sometimes incoherent. The novel is even so witty as to have been out of order just as Kien's attempt at a novel had been. This book was a controversial, however effective portrayal of the Vietnam War. It had exceeded beyond my initial expectations as a historical novel and as a work of fiction entirely.        My initial reaction to such a grim book was pure horror. There were many unpleasant scenes within the book that had been hard to read. However, although these events were indeed horrific and graphic, they were realistic and add substance to the book.      Technology does not distract students. Many online educational online videos such as Kahn Academy help students get the help that they need in certain classes. Students can receive help from the internet and score higher on tests because of technology. There are also certain programs like Remind that allows teachers to contact students via group message. This way students can receive personal help on at-home assignments and ask the teacher questions after instructional school time. Individuals may say that technology has too many social sites and new propaganda that can distract children. However, there are many time management apps that keep individuals locked out of social sites so that they can use their devices to further their personal education. Technology is a contribution to the advancement of more efficient teaching and learning.
