Reflection- Letter 8

Celie has finally had her education taken away from her because she was told she was "too stupid" in the first place. She did not know that in fact she was pregnant with her own father's child. Mr. ____ had decided to finally take her in as a wife as well. This letter reveals that Celie has finally come to terms with whatever her father would do to her. It also shows just how uneducated she really was, not noticing she was pregnant no matter how obvious it was. It seems that Fonso wanted to make her submissive and servile her entire life, so he removed her from school as a result. Celie now understands her "place" as a forever servant to a dominant man.



Journal Entry 2:

Today, I learned knew songs in choir for our upcoming Black History Program. Mr. Frye had given me a solo all on my own for the first time to sing at the program. I think the song was a little morbid and strange, but the way the song was delivered made it sound beautiful. The song is about a woman who was impregnated by a musician, but never told him he was a father. The man eventually left her, leaving her to raise a child on her own. When the child was born, a son, she weeped noticing the baby had the same hands as his father had. Driven crazy with sadness, she decides to bury the baby in the ground, probably not wanting to slowly watch him grow to look like his father. The baby was recovered before dying, thank the Lord, and she apologized. The song is very strange, but I do hope that I can do it any justice.

    That's great to hear that you did a solo and you enjoyed doing that. Moments like that are great to have. Keep doing great things because it can only get better.

This obviously scars her for the rest of her life, being that she was only 14 years old when it happened. This event is a very uncomfortable and shocking start to a book, and sets the tone for the rest of the book. The grammar is rough, showing that Celie is an uneducated girl who most likely can not afford an education, or was held back from attending due to other circumstances. Kamryn Barnes Mr. Rease AP Eng 11 19 November 2016        The novel, The Sorrow of War , was a novel about the struggles of  a Vietnamese soldier named Kien. The novel told stories of love and loss and how different people cope with the aftermath. The point of view constantly shifts and is sometimes incoherent. The novel is even so witty as to have been out of order just as Kien's attempt at a novel had been. This book was a controversial, however effective portrayal of the Vietnam War. It had exceeded beyond my initial expectations as a historical novel and as a work of fiction entirely.        My initial reaction to such a grim book was pure horror. There were many unpleasant scenes within the book that had been hard to read. However, although these events were indeed horrific and graphic, they were realistic and add substance to the book.      Technology does not distract students. Many online educational online videos such as Kahn Academy help students get the help that they need in certain classes. Students can receive help from the internet and score higher on tests because of technology. There are also certain programs like Remind that allows teachers to contact students via group message. This way students can receive personal help on at-home assignments and ask the teacher questions after instructional school time. Individuals may say that technology has too many social sites and new propaganda that can distract children. However, there are many time management apps that keep individuals locked out of social sites so that they can use their devices to further their personal education. Technology is a contribution to the advancement of more efficient teaching and learning.
